Uitleg
Het komt voor op woeste en zanderige plaatsen, vlaktes, berghellingen, 700-1600m. Het komt uit China (Gansu, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi) en Mongolië.

Botanische beschrijving
Dit is een kleine halfstruik, tot 40cm, spaarzaam vertakt. De houtachtige stengels zijn kort of liggend. De twijgen zijn recht of gebogen, soms licht omgekruld, internodia 3-4cm x circa 2mm, ondiep gegroefd.
De bladeren zijn tegenoverstaand, samenkomend voor 1/3-2/3 van hun lengte, vrij deel gepunt tot smal driehoekig, tot 5mm, top scherp gepunt. De stuifmeelkegels zijn sessiel of gesteeld, solitair of in clusters bij knopen, zelden eindstandig. De schutbladen zijn in 4 paren, rand zeer smal, vliezig, top stomp of subacuut. Er zijn 7 of 8 helmknoppen, sessiel of kort gesteeld.
De zaadkegels zijn eindstandig of okselvormig, solitair, langwerpig-eivormig of bolvormig, circa 8 x 6-7mm bij rijpheid. De schutbladen zijn in 4 paren, samenkomend voor 1/2-3/4 van hun lengte, rood en vlezig bij rijpheid. De zaadvliesbuis is 1-2mm, recht of licht gebogen. Er zijn meestal 2 zaden, zwartrood of grijsbruin, verborgen door of gelijk aan schutbladen.

Zaai instructies
LENTE Week de zaden in water bij kamertemperatuur gedurende 12h. Zaai de zaden op de oppervlakte van Drainerende zaaigrond tussen 18-22°C. Tijdens het ontkiemen het substraat vochtig en in het daglicht houden.
