Uitleg
Deze soort komt voor in vertrapte of zoute gronden, 0-1100m. Het komt uit het Middellandse Zeegebied, ook in de Atlantische gebieden van Europa tot Finland en West-Azië. Het wordt geïntroduceerd in Noord-Amerika, Nieuw-Zeeland en Australië, en waarschijnlijk in Iran, Afghanistan en Pakistan.

Botanische beschrijving
Deze soort is een eenjarig kruid. De bladeren bevinden zich in een basale rozet, horizontaal aangedrukt, lineair gelobd, 40-200 x 2-5mm, behaard, asymmetrisch. Er zijn veel stelen per rozet, 70-320mm lang. De steeltjes zijn horizontaal van onderen, rechtopstaand aan de onderkant.
De stekels zijn rechtopstaand en 20-120mm lang. De schutbladen zijn bijna kaal, de toppen scherp. De kelklobben zijn smal elliptisch, 2 x 1mm, acuut. De bloemkroonlobben zijn driehoekig, 1,0 x 0,7mm, subacuut.
De doosvrucht is ellipsvormig, 2,5 x 2,0mm. De zaden zijn afgerond-vierhoekig, 2-4 per doosvrucht, groenachtig bruin, 1,0-1,3 x 0,6-0,7mm, hilumlitteken aan de top, klein.
