Uitleg
Deze soort komt uit Centraal- en Oost-Europa en breidt zich lokaal westwaarts uit naar Groot-Brittannië en de Pyreneeën. Hij groeit in lichte zandige of grindachtige bodems, vaak in de buurt van grote rivieren.
Botanische beschrijving
Dit is een kale vaste plant, soms getuft en houtachtig aan de basis. De stengels zijn 10-80cm, rechtopstaand of opgaand, liggend.
De bladeren zijn 1-3mm breed, lineair of lineair-lancetvormig, gaaf, 1- tot 3-nervig. De bloemstelen zijn rechtopstaand.
De bloeiwijze is weinig- tot veelbloemig. De kelkbladen zijn 3,5-6mm, ongelijk, met drie hoofdnerven. De buitenste kelkbladen zijn smaller dan de binnenste en met een spitse of toegespitste top. De binnenste kelkbladen hebben spitse of stompe en gave, vliezige randen. De bloemblaadjes zijn blauw, 3-4 keer zo lang als de kelkbladen, omgekeerd eirond of omgekeerd eirond-lancetvormig, geleidelijk taps toelopend naar een gele, behaarde klauw. Het heeft 5 meeldraden, afgewisseld met 5 rudimentaire staminodia. De stempels zijn hoofdvormig.
De vruchtjes zijn 5-8mm groot en bijna bolvormig.
