De naam verwijst naar Dundas, een voormalig mijnstadje bij Lake Dundas ten zuiden van Norseman in Western-Australia. Aanwezig in twee gescheiden gebieden, de zuidelijke goudvelden rond Norseman en ten noorden van Coolgardie bij Callion.

Botanische beschrijving
Het is een boom met een enkele stam, zonder lignotuber. De schors is ruw, stevig, zwartachtig, geschilferd of mozaïekvormig over 2 of 3meter van de onderste stam, en wordt dan glad en zwartachtig grijsgroen op koperachtig. De stengels zijn in doorsnede afgerond.
De jonge bladeren zijn gesteeld op ongeveer 2 tegenover elkaar liggende knooppunten en wisselen dan af, breed lancetvormig van 6,5 tot 11cm lang en 3 tot 4,5cm breed, glanzend, groen, verkleurend en vervolgens aan beide kanten dezelfde kleur. Volwassen bladeren zijn afwisselend. De bladsteel is 0,8 tot 1,8cm lang. Het blad is smal lancetvormig tot sikkelvormig, 6-12cm lang, 0,6-1,7cm breed. De basis is taps toelopend tot aan de bladsteel, hele rand, spitse top, zeer glanzend en groen blad. De netvorming is dicht en de intra-marginale ader zeer dicht bij de marge of zelfs afwezig.
De okselstandige bloeiwijze is onvertakt, steel 0,6 - 1,6cm lang en 7 knoppen per scherm, sessiel of met korte steeltjes van 0 tot 0,1cm lang. De volwassen knoppen zijn min of meer cilindrisch, maar de bloembeker wordt onder de samenkomst wat samengetrokken. Ze zijn 0,7-1cm lang en 0,3-0,4cm breed, glad of licht geribbeld aan de basis. Het litteken is aanwezig, het operculum is snavelvormig, de meeldraden zijn totaal naar binnen verbogen, de helmknoppen zijn langwerpig, veelzijdig, aan de rug bevestigd, longitudinaal gebarsten. De stijl is lang en recht, de stempel is stomp tot taps toelopend. 3 locules, wit-crèmekleurige bloemen.
De vrucht is over het algemeen sessiel, zelden kort gesteeld, cilindrisch tot urnvormig en meet 0,6 tot 0,9cm lang en 0,4 tot 0,6cm breed. In de basis glad of licht geribbeld. 3 ingesloten kleppen aanwezig. De zaden zijn bruin van kleur en 1 tot 2mm lang, eivormig, dorsaal oppervlak duidelijk maar enigszins netvormig, ventrale hilum.

De Geslacht: Eucalyptus Ondergeslacht: Symphyomyrtus Sectie: Bisectae Ondersectie: Glandulosae Serie: Dundasianae heeft de volgende kenmerken: De knoppen een operculum litteken hebben, zaadlobben zijn doorgesneden en twijgen hebben olieklieren in het merg. Binnen deze grote onderafdeling (ca 80 soorten) heeft Eucalyptus dundasii geen naaste verwanten en vormt het de monotypische reeks Dundasianae. Het onderscheidt zich door zijn schors- en bladkenmerken en ook door de volledig onbuigzame meeldraden en netvormig afgeplat eivormig zaad.

Zaai instructies
LENTE Selecteer de grootste en meest vlezige BRUINE zaden. Zaai de zaden op 2mm diepte in de Drainerende zaaigrond tussen 18-22°C. Tijdens het ontkiemen het substraat vochtig en in het daglicht houden. De zaden ontkiemen in 3-6 weken. De levensvatbaarheid van het zaad, bewaard onder goede omstandigheden, is 10 jaren.
Het gemiddelde zaadgewicht is 485,4 per gram (0,00206g).
