Uitleg
Van het Griekse 'dipterus', tweevleugelig, verwijzend naar de hoeken van de knoppen en fruit. Hij is endemisch voor West-Australië, het is beperkt tot het zuiden en zuidwesten van Norseman.

Botanische beschrijving
Het is een mallee. Het heeft geen lignotuber, het is soms zeer dicht bij de grond vertakt. Zijn bast is volledig glad groenachtig grijs tot brons of koperachtig en vertoont olieachtige glans.
De jonge bladeren zijn altijd gesteeld, afwisselend, breed lancetvormig. Ze zijn 5 tot 8cm lang en 0,7 tot 2,5cm breed. Ze zijn dof, blauwgroen van kleur op de onderste knooppunten en vervolgens groen hoger. De volwassen bladeren zijn afwisselend, gesteeld (bladsteel 0,7 tot 1,7cm lang), blad lineair tot smal lancetvormig, ze zijn 6 tot 12cm lang en 0,7 tot 2cm breed. Basis loopt taps toe tot de bladsteel, hele rand, groen en glanzend. Matige tot dichte netvorming. De intra-marginale ader ligt redelijk dicht bij de rand.
Onvertakte axillaire bloeiwijze, bijna afwezige steeltjes. 3 knoppen per scherm, sessiel of gesteeld (afgeplat en korte steel van maximaal 0,2cm lang). De volwassen knoppen zijn eivormig en 0,8 tot 1,5cm lang en 0,6 tot 1,1cm breed. Hun hoeken vormen vleugels (vandaar de bijnaam) vanaf het steeltje tot aan de samenvoeging van hypanthium en het operculum. Litteken aanwezig. Meeldraden naar binnen verbogen, helmknoppen smal langwerpig, veelzijdig, half aan de basis bevestigd, in de lengte gespleten. Lange en rechte stijl, stompe stempel, 4 tot 5 locules. De bloei vindt plaats van juni tot november. De bloemen zijn roomwit, licht citroen tot limoengroen.
De vrucht is sessiel of gesteeld (steel 0 tot 0,2cm lang). Komvormig tot halfrond 'gevleugeld'. Het meet 0,5 tot 0,9cm lang en 0,9 tot 1,5cm breed. 4 tot 5 kleppen. De zaden zijn lichtgrijs tot middelbruin, 1 tot 2mm lang, eivormig tot afgeplat eivormig of zelfs kubusvormig of veelhoekig. Dorsaal oppervlak diep en dicht gespleten, getande rand en ventrale/terminale hilum.

De Geslacht: Eucalyptus Ondergeslacht: Symphyomyrtus Sectie: Bisectae Ondersectie: Glandulosae Serie: Contortae heeft de volgende kenmerken: De knoppen twee opercula hebben, de zaadlobben zijn doorgesneden en de twijgen talrijke olieklieren in het merg hebben. Binnen deze onderafdeling behoort Eucalyptus diptera tot een kleine bekende groep, de gimlets (serie Contortae), een groep die opvalt door de slanke geribbelde, gedraaide glanzende stammen. De gimlets worden verder herkend door zeer onregelmatige eilandolieklieren in de bladeren en onregelmatig en diep gespleten zaadvliezen.
Nuttige plant
Het is een snelgroeiende boom die hiervoor als windbreker wordt gebruikt, maar wordt ook gewaardeerd om zijn kleurrijke honing.

LENTE Selecteer de grootste en meest vlezige Strokleurige zaden. Zaai de zaden op 2mm diepte in de Drainerende zaaigrond tussen 18-22°C. Tijdens het ontkiemen het substraat vochtig en in het daglicht houden. De zaden ontkiemen in 3-6 weken. De levensvatbaarheid van het zaad, bewaard onder goede omstandigheden, is 10 jaren.
Het gemiddelde zaadgewicht is 259,1 per gram (0,00386g).
