Uitleg
Het is een kleine endemische mallee uit West-Australië, van Oost-Bendering tot Salmon Gums en bijna tot Balladonia maar niet aan de kust. De oorsprong van de naam Eucalyptus cylindriflora komt van het Latijnse ‘cylindri’ wat cilindrisch betekent en ‘flora’ wat bloem betekent, verwijzend naar de cilindrische knoppen. Hij houdt van warme klimaten zoals droge of halfdroge gebieden. Deze soort verdraagt droogte en af en toe nachtvorst.

Botanische beschrijving
Deze Eucalyptus is een mallee, met de aanwezige lignotuber. De bast is glad, wit tot lichtgrijs en geelachtig grijs.
De stelen zijn in dwarsdoorsnede afgerond. De jonge bladeren zijn altijd zwak gesteeld, tegenovergesteld aan afwisselend, lansvormig tot lineair. Ze zijn 4 tot 8cm lang en 0,5 tot 1,5cm breed, de bovenkant van de bladeren is glanzend, groen. De volwassen bladeren zijn afwisselend, rechtopstaand, gesteeld 0,3 tot 1,3cm lang, het blad is lineair, 4 tot 7,5cm lang en 0,4 tot 1cm breed, de rand is heel, de top is puntig, de basis loopt taps toe naar de bladsteel. Het blad is aan beide kanten dezelfde kleur, glanzend, groen. De netvorming is schaars en onduidelijk. De intra-marginale ader is aanwezig.
De bloeiwijze is onvertakt axillair, met een dunne steel van 0,9 tot 2,7cm lang en samengesteld uit 7 knoppen per bloemscherm, met een lange steel van 0,4 tot 1cm lang. De volwassen toppen zijn eivormig tot cilindrisch. De knoppen zijn 1 tot 1,3cm lang en 0,4 tot 0,7cm breed. Het litteken is aanwezig. Het operculum is conisch. De meeldraden zijn sterk naar binnen gebogen, de helmknoppen zijn langwerpig, veelzijdig, aan de rug bevestigd, uitgesneden door longitudinale spleten, de stijl is lang en recht, de stempel is stomp tot licht verwijd. 4 of 5 locules aanwezig. De bloemen zijn van januari tot maart crèmewit.
De vrucht is gesteeld van 0,3 tot 1,2cm lang, cilindrisch tot komvormig, 0,6 tot 1cm lang en 0,6 tot 0,9cm breed, 4 of 5 kleppen aan de rand. De zaden zijn bruin van kleur, 0,5 tot 1,5mm lang, afgeplat eivormig, met een duidelijk netvormig dorsaal oppervlak, ventrale hilum.

De Geslacht: Eucalyptus Ondergeslacht: Symphyomyrtus Sectie: Bisectae Ondersectie: Glandulosae Serie: Elongatae heeft de volgende kenmerken: De knoppen een operculum litteken hebben, zaadlobben zijn doorgesneden en twijgen hebben olieklieren in het merg. Binnen deze grote onderafdeling is Eucalyptus cylindriflora nauw verwant aan een groep mallees en hamers (serie Elongatae) te herkennen aan de glanzende groene bladeren met veel olieklieren die de reticulatie verduisteren maar niet de belangrijkste zijaders, knoppen met zeer lange opvallende steeltjes, korte brede opercula , onbuigzame meeldraden en eitjes in 6 verticale rijen.
Nuttige plant
Deze eucalyptus produceert overvloedig honing, daarom wordt hij gezocht in plantages voor imkers.

Zaai instructies
LENTE Selecteer de grootste en meest vlezige BRUINE zaden. Zaai de zaden op 2mm diepte in de Drainerende zaaigrond tussen 15-20°C. Tijdens het ontkiemen het substraat vochtig en in het daglicht houden. De zaden ontkiemen in 3-6 weken. De levensvatbaarheid van het zaad, bewaard onder goede omstandigheden, is 10 jaren.
Het gemiddelde zaadgewicht is 990,1 per gram (0,00101g).
