Uitleg
Deze mallee of kleine boom komt oorspronkelijk uit Zuidwest-Australië van Karalee naar het oosten en vooral tussen Coolgardie en Norseman, meestal op granieten rotsen. De oorsprong van de naam Eucalyptus aspratilis komt van het Latijnse ‘aspratilis’, wat ruw, schilferig betekent en verwijst naar de schors.

Botanische beschrijving
Deze mallee vormt een lignotuber. De bast is ruw op de eerste 2meter van de stam. Dan wordt het los en schilfert het tot linten, of soms is het overal glad, grijs tot zwartbruin, of zilvergrijs tot licht bruingrijs.
De stengel is in doorsnede afgerond. De jonge bladeren zijn altijd gesteeld, afwisselend, ovaal tot lansvormig. Ze zijn 2,5 tot 7cm lang en 1,5 tot 2,5cm breed. De kleur is dof, blauwgrijs. De volwassen bladeren zijn 5,5 tot 10cm lang en 1 tot 2,2cm breed, ze zijn afwisselend en gesteeld 0,7 tot 2cm lang, het blad is lansvormig. De basis loopt taps toe naar de bladsteel. De rand is heel, de top is spits, aan beide kanten dezelfde kleur, aanvankelijk dof blauwgroen en later glanzend groen. De netvorming is schaars, de intra-marginale ader is aanwezig of verborgen.
De bloeiwijze is onvertakt axillair, de steel is schuin tot afgeplat en breed apicaal, hij is 1,5 tot 4,7cm lang, samengesteld uit 7 knoppen per bloemscherm, steeltjes tot 0,8cm lang. De volwassen knop is langwerpig tot asymmetrisch spilvormig. De knop is 2 tot 3cm lang en 0,5 tot 0,7cm breed. Het litteken is aanwezig. Het deksel is hoornvormig, 2 tot 3 keer de lengte van het hypanthium. De meeldraden zijn rechtopstaand. De helmknoppen zijn langwerpig, veelzijdig, aan de rug bevestigd, open door longitudinale spleten, de stijl is lang en recht. Er zijn 4 of zelfs 5 locules. In mei, juli en augustus verschijnen crème tot lichtgele of geelgroene bloemen.
De vrucht is naar beneden gedraaid, gesteeld van 0,4 tot 0,8cm lang, over het algemeen cilindrisch of minder vaak omgekeerd kegelvormig. De vrucht is 1 tot 1,5cm lang en 0,7 tot 1,2cm breed, 4 (of 5) kleppen aanwezig. De zaden zijn zwartbruin, 1 tot 2mm lang, eivormig, afgeplat eivormig, ondiep netvormig dorsaal oppervlak, ventrale hilum.
Deze Eucalyptus lijkt op Eucalyptus occidentalis var occidentalis en verschilt in zijn niet-moerassige leefomgeving, zijn lagere hoogte, zijn vrucht is meestal cilindrisch en de verspreiding verder naar het oosten.

Binnen deze subsectie behoort Eucalyptus aspratilis tot een subgroep, serie Erectae subseries Pedicellatae herkend aan het glanzende groene bladoppervlak, bladeren met veel olieklieren maar de secundaire nerven niet verdoezelen, steeltjes lang en afgeplat of kegelvormig, bloeiwijzen die zich naar hangend verspreiden en knoppen met een lang operculum en rechtopstaande meeldraden die voortkomen uit een smalle staminofoor.

Zaai instructies
LENTE Selecteer de grootste en meest vlezige ZWARTE zaden. Zaai de zaden op 2mm diepte in de Drainerende zaaigrond tussen 15-20°C. Tijdens het ontkiemen het substraat vochtig en in het daglicht houden. De zaden ontkiemen in 3-6 weken. De levensvatbaarheid van het zaad, bewaard onder goede omstandigheden, is 10 jaren.
Het gemiddelde zaadgewicht is 1492,5 per gram (0,00067g).
