Uitleg
Deze soort is opgedragen aan de Britse botanicus Hugh Corley en werd pas in 1982 beschreven. Het ligt aan de Atlantische grens van Noordoost-Spanje (waar het endemisch is). Zijn sterke aanwezigheid in zijn kleine bereik suggereert een recent taxon die nog aan het uitbreiden is (Prelli 2001).
Het is een soort van hybride oorsprong, tetraploïde, met vermoedelijke ouders Dryopteris aemula en Dryopteris aoreades. Het kan gemakkelijk worden verward met Dryopteris filix-mas die zich onderscheidt door een driehoekig blad, niet verkleind aan de basis, met brede en asymmetrische pinnae.
Aan de andere kant groeit het in de vochtige heidevelden, aan de valleien langs de oceaan waarvan de vochtigheid constant is en alleen op zandsteen. In zijn opmerkelijke gids voor varens vertelt Rémy Prelli ons dat deze plant in stand wordt gehouden wanneer de omgeving wordt gekoloniseerd door Eucalyptus.
