Uitleg
Het groeit in moerassige gebieden en op beekoevers. Het is wijdverbreid op de kust, plateaus en westelijke hellingen, ten westen van Pilliga Scrub en Warrumbungle Range. Het komt voor in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria en Tasmanië, Australië. De soortnaam betekent stralend.

Botanische beschrijving
Dit is een robuuste pollenvormende vaste plant met een korte dikke wortelstok. De halmen zijn 30-150cm hoog, driehoekig, glad, tot 10mm in diameter. De bladeren zijn vaak langer dan halmen, 5-40mm breed.
De bloeiwijze is samengesteld of niet samengesteld met 6-10 primaire stengels tot 20cm lang. De aren zijn eivormig tot cilindrisch, 1-3cm lang en in diameter. De 5-10 involucrale schutbladen zijn bladachtig, veel groter dan de bloeiwijze, tot 150cm lang. De aartjes zijn kegelvormig tot afgeplat, talrijk per aar, 4-20mm lang, 1-2,5mm breed in zijaanzicht, 4-10 bloemig. De zijas is breed gevleugeld. Het aartje valt als een eenheid. De kelkkafjes zijn acuut, met zijden 2-4-nervig, 4-6,5mm lang, roodbruin. Er zijn 3 meeldraden. De stijl is 3-delig. De noot is driehoekig, zeer smal-ellipsoïde, ongeveer tweederde zo lang als het kelkkafje, 2,5-3mm lang, circa 0,7mm in diameter, donker grijsbruin tot zwartachtig.
De bloeiwijze is samengesteld of niet samengesteld met 6-10 primaire stengels tot 20cm lang. De aren zijn eivormig tot cilindrisch, 1-3cm lang en in diameter. De 5-10 involucrale schutbladen zijn bladachtig, veel groter dan de bloeiwijze, tot 150cm lang. De aartjes zijn kegelvormig tot afgeplat, talrijk per aar, 4-20mm lang, 1-2,5mm breed in zijaanzicht, 4-10 bloemig. De zijas is breed gevleugeld. Het aartje valt als een eenheid. De kelkkafjes zijn acuut, met zijden 2-4-nervig, 4-6,5mm lang, roodbruin. Er zijn 3 meeldraden. De stijl is 3-delig. De noot is driehoekig, zeer smal-ellipsoïde, ongeveer tweederde zo lang als het kelkkafje, 2,5-3mm lang, circa 0,7mm in diameter, donker grijsbruin tot zwartachtig.
Nuttige plant
Kan als moerasplant of op een natte plek in de tuin gekweekt worden. Kan ook worden gekweekt als een opkomende waterplant.
