Description
Eucalyptus kochii est une espèce mallée répandue dans le sud-ouest de l'Australie occidentale depuis près de Narembeen, au nord jusqu'à presque Kalbarri, puis s'étendant vers l'est dans la région de Grès-Menzies-Yellowdine. E. kochii ssp borealis se produit du parc national de Kalbarri jusqu'au sud de Morawa. L'épithète de cette sous-espèce vient du latin borealis - nord ou nord, faisant référence à la répartition septentrionale de cette sous-espèce au sein du complexe E. kochii.

Description botanique
C'est un mallée ou rarement un arbre plus grand jusqu'à 12 m de haut. Il forme un lignotubercule. L'écorce est généralement rugueuse sur la plupart des tiges et s'étend parfois jusqu'aux plus grosses branches, squameuse fibreuse, parfois fissurée, généralement fermement tenue, gris clair, écorce lisse au-dessus du gris sur le rouge-brun. Les rameaux manquent de glandes sébacées dans la moelle.
Les feuilles juvéniles ne sont pas visibles. Les feuilles adultes sont alternes, pétiole de 0,7 à 1,5 cm de long. Le limbe est étroitement lancéolé à lancéolé, de 5,5 à 11 cm de long, 0,6 à 1,4 cm de large, la base se rétrécissant en pétiole, concolore, généralement légèrement brillant à brillant, rarement terne, vert, les nervures latérales à un angle aigu ou plus large vers la nervure médiane, densément à très densément réticulée, veine intramarginale parallèle et juste à l'intérieur de la marge, glandes sébacées nombreuses et pour la plupart intersectionnelles.
L'inflorescence est axillaire non ramifiée, avec des pédoncules de 0,5-1,2cm de long. Il y a 9 à 15 bourgeons par ombelle, pédicellés, pédicelles d'environ 0,3cm de long. Les bourgeons matures sont largement fusiformes à ovoïdes (environ 1cm de long, environ 0,4cm de large), cicatrice présente, opercule conique à en forme de corne (environ 0,5cm de long), parfois légèrement bec. Les étamines sont irrégulièrement fléchies, les anthères adnées à faiblement polyvalentes, basifixées, globoïdes, déhiscentes par des pores latéraux. Le style est long, le stigmate effilé, à 3 ou 4 loges, les placentas comportant chacun 4 rangées d'ovules verticales. Les fleurs sont blanches.
Le fruit est pédicellé, les pédicelles de 0,2 à 0,4cm de long, urcéolés à tronqués-globuleux à en forme de tonneau, de 0,5 à 0,9cm de long et de 0,4 à 0,7cm de large. Le disque est descendant, 3 ou 4 valves, bouts de valve fortement exserts dus à des restes de style fragiles. Les graines sont brun clair à grises, 1-1,5mm de long, ovoïdes ou aplaties-ovoïdes, parfois avec des sillons longitudinaux peu profonds sur la surface dorsale par ailleurs lisse, le hile ventral.
E. kochii ssp borealis se distingue au sein du groupe par ses feuilles adultes légèrement plus larges et très brillantes et par ses opercules coniques.

Le Genre: Eucalyptus Sous-genre: Symphyomyrtus Section: Bisectae Sous-section: Destitutae Serie: Subulatae Sous-serie: Oleaginae ayant les caractères suivants : Les bourgeons ont deux opercules, les cotylédons sont en forme de Y et les rameaux n'ont pas de glandes sébacées dans la moelle. Dans cette sous-section Eucalyptus kochii ssp borealis fait partie de la grande série taxonomique Subulatae caractérisée en outre par des anthères globoïdes basifixées, des graines grises lisses avec des sillons longitudinaux peu profonds et des fruits avec des restes de style persistants. La série Subulatae est principalement divisée en quatre sous-séries basées sur les feuilles juvéniles. Sous-série Oleaginae à feuilles de semis disjointes et pétiolées.

Protocole de germination
PRINTEMPS Sélectionner les graines BRUNES les plus grosses et les plus charnues. Semer les graines à 2mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 18-22°C. Pendant la germination garder le substrat humide et à la lumière du jour. Les graines germent en 3-6 semaines.
La viabilité des graines, gardées sous des bonnes conditions, est 10 ans.
