Description
L'épithète 'confusa' de cette espèce signifie confus. On retrouve cette espèce en Asie du Sud-Est, comme aux Philippines. Elle pousse sur des terrains pentus et dans des forêts sèches à des altitudes pouvant aller jusqu'à 800m.

Description botanique
C'est un arbre à feuilles persistantes de 6 à 15m de haut, glabre. Les branches sont grises ou brunes et inermes. Les rameaux sont minces et anguleux.

Les phyllodes sont droits ou légèrement falciformes, linéaires-lancéolés, de 6 à 10cm de long pour 0,5 à 1,3cm de large. Ils sont coriaces, les deux faces glabres, les nervures longitudinales bien visibles et les deux extrémités acuminées.

Les inflorescences sont des glomérules solitaires ou des grappes à 2 ou 3 têtes, axillaires, et mesurent 0,7cm de diamètre. Les pédoncules sont minces de 7 à 13mm de long. Les fleurs sont jaune doré, parfumées.

Les gousses sont brun-noir, plates, de 4 à 9cm de long pour 0,7 à 1cm de large. Les graines sont largement elliptiques et mesurent de 5 à 6mm de long, pour 3,5 à 5mm de large.

Appartenance
Le Genre: Acacia Sous-genre: Phyllodineae Section: Plurinerves ayant les caractères suivants : Arbres ou arbustes, parfois prostrés. Branches désarmées. stipules normalement présentes et scarieuses, rarement épineuses. Feuilles bipennées ou plus communément modifiées en phyllodes polymorphes, rarement réduites en écailles ou absentes. Inflorescences simples ou racémeuses, parfois paniculées ; fleurs disposées en têtes ou en épis ; têtes sans involucelle sur le pédoncule; fleurs sans gynophore.

Le sous-genre Phyllodineae contient environ 950 espèces, dont la majorité sont confinées à l'Australie ; on estime qu'il existe au moins 50 espèces supplémentaires, non encore décrites.

Une grande section, répandue en Australie, caractérisée par des espèces ayant des phyllodes plurinervés et des axes d'inflorescence florifères ayant des têtes globuleuses.
Plante utile
Cet arbre est cultivé pour créer de l'ombre ou pour aider à stabiliser les dunes, en particulier près de la côte. On l'utilise également comme source de tanins. L'écorce récoltée à cette fin, ne doit être prélevée que sur des tiges matures, et uniquement lorsque la sève monte au début de la saison de croissance. C'est le moment où la teneur en tanins est la plus élevée et que l'écorce s'enlève le plus facilement du bois.

Le bois est utilisé de diverses façons, comme la sculpture, la fabrication de meubles, les traverses de chemin de fer, la fabrication de bateaux, les manches d'outils, la boiserie domestique industrielle et non industrielle, etc. Il a également montré un potentiel pour fournir de la pâte de bois et servir de combustible.

Protocole de germination
PRINTEMPS Tremper les graines dans de l'eau chaude à 90°C pendant 12h. Semer les graines à 5mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 18-22°C. Pendant la germination garder le substrat humide et à la lumière du jour. Les graines germent en 2-3 semaines.
Le poids moyen des graines est 32,3 par gramme (0,031g).
La viabilité des graines, gardées sous des bonnes conditions, est 10 ans.

Instructions de bouturage
Prélevez les boutures à la fin du printemps, trempez-les dans une préparation hormonale pour bouturage. Plantez-les dans un substrat riche en perlite et gardez-les suffisamment humides dans des sacs de congélation scellés.
