Acacia cyclops       675

Petit arbre au port érigé compact et dense. Les rameaux compressés sont glabres. Les phyl-lodes ascendants, étroitement oblongs à elliptiques, inégaux légèrement recourbés, de 4 à 9,5cm de long pour 6 à 15mm, obtus, coriaces et glabres, avec 3 ou 4 nerfs principaux, et occasionnellement avec des nerfs secondaires. Les nouvelles feuilles ont la particularité de croitre dans les couleurs pourpres. Les inflorescences sont formées de grappes de 3 à 20mm de long à 2 têtes, quelque peu compressées, glabres. Les pédoncules mesurent de 4 à 12 mm de long, glabres. Les têtes de forme globuleuses de 5 à 7mm de diamètre, portent de 60 à 75 fleurs, de couleur jaune dorée et délicatement parfumées. Les gousses linéaires légère-ment surélevés sur les graines, et arquées mesurent jusqu'à 15cm de long pour 7 à 15mm de large, elles sont coriaces épaisses, glabres et persistantes après la chute des graines. Les graines longitudinales, de forme elliptique mesurent de 5 à 7mm de long, de couleur rouge foncé à brun foncé brillant.

Les fleurs et les fruits mûrs se trouvent souvent ensemble sur la même plante, ce qui dis-tingue encore plus l'espèce.

Le Genre: Acacia Sous-genre: Phyllodineae Section: Plurinerves ayant les caractères suivants : Arbres ou arbustes, parfois prostrés. Branches désarmées. stipules normalement présentes et scarieuses, rarement épineuses. Feuilles bipennées ou plus communément modifiées en phyllodes polymorphes, rarement réduites en écailles ou absentes. Inflorescences simples ou racémeuses, parfois paniculées ; fleurs disposées en têtes ou en épis ; têtes sans involucelle sur le pédoncule; fleurs sans gynophore.

Le sous-genre Phyllodineae contient environ 950 espèces, dont la majorité sont confinées à l'Australie ; on estime qu'il existe au moins 50 espèces supplémentaires, non encore décrites.

Une grande section, répandue en Australie, caractérisée par des espèces ayant des phyllodes plurinervés et des axes d'inflorescence florifères ayant des têtes globuleuses.

Résistant à la sécheresse mais aussi aux embruns. Il tolère les sols très salins, naturellement présent dans les dunes côtières, il est aussi cultivé principalement pour les stabiliser, notamment en Afrique du Nord. D'autre part, sa densité de feuillage offre du bois de chauffage de haute qualité.

PRINTEMPS Tremper les graines dans de l'eau chaude à 99°C pendant 1min. Remplacer par de l'eau à température ambiante pendant 12h et un Disque Fumigène. Semer les graines à 5mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 20-25°C. Pendant la germination garder le substrat humide et à la lumière du jour. Les graines germent en 2-3 semaines.
Le poids moyen des graines est 33,0 par gramme (0,03032g).
La viabilité des graines, gardées sous des bonnes conditions, est 10 ans.

Prélevez les boutures à la fin du printemps, trempez-les dans une préparation hormonale pour bouturage. Plantez-les dans un substrat riche en perlite et gardez-les suffisamment humides dans des sacs de congélation scellés.
