Description
Son épithète en hommage à Ken Newbey (1936-1988), un agriculteur, grand collectionneur botanique et écologiste convaincu d'Ongerup en Australie-Occidentale. Il fut le premier à collecter cette espèce endémique d'Australie-Occidentale, connue seulement dans deux régions, près de Beaufort Inlet et du parc national de Fitzgerald River. Elle pousse dans des sables ou des argiles presque neutres bien drainés recouvrant une roche tendre.

Description botanique
C'est un maillet de 8m de haut sans lignotuber. L'écorce est lisse partout, tachetée de jaune-brun et de gris à jaune crème, qui se desquame en flocons vaporeux.
Les feuilles juvéniles ne sont pas visibles. Les feuilles adultes sont alternes, pétiolées sur 0,5 à 1cm de long. Elles sont étroitement lancéolées à étroitement elliptiques, de 4 à 8cm de long, d0,5 à 1,5cm de large, base atténuée au pétiole, bord entier, apex pointu, rarement arrondi et apiculé. La réticulation est modérée à dense, la nervure intramarginale est proche du bord.
L'inflorescence est axillaire non ramifiée, les pédoncules sont tournés vers le bas et mesurent 3 à 5,5cm de long. 7 bourgeons par ombelle, rarement 3 ou 9, sessiles à subsessiles. Les bourgeons matures sont allongés, longs de 5,2 à 6cm, larges de 1,1 à 1,6cm, cicatrices présentes (opercule externe excrétée très tôt). Opercule en forme de corne, environ 3 à 4 fois plus long que l'hypanthium, dilaté à la base et lisse. Les étamines sont dressées, les anthères étroitement oblongues, polyvalentes, dorsifixées, déhiscentes par fentes longitudinales. Le style est long et droit, le stigmate est arrondi, 3 locules. Les fleurs sont vert jaunâtre.
Le fruit est sur des pédoncules tournés vers le bas, sessiles, campanulés à obconiques. Il mesure 1 à 2,7cm de long, 1,8 à 2,8cm de large, déhiscent par des trous elliptiques formés lorsque les 3 valves se séparent le long des sutures mais restent reliées par la base. Par la suite les trous fusionnent, le disque recouvrira les valves. Les graines sont noires, longues de 1,5 à 4 mm, ovoïdes à angulaires, la surface dorsale peu réticulée, un renflement étroit sur au moins une partie du bord, hile ventral.

Le Genre: Eucalyptus Sous-genre: Symphyomyrtus Section: Bisectae Sous-section: Hadrotes Serie: Lehmannianae Sous-serie: Liberae ayant les caractères suivants : Les cotylédons sont grossièrement coupés en deux, les bourgeons ont une cicatrice d'opercule, un long opercule (intérieur) et des étamines dressées, les fruits sont gros, à rebord épais et maintenus rigidement. Il y a 12 espèces dans la sous-section Hadrotes, deux espèces ont des glandes sébacées dans la moelle tandis que 10 espèces n'ont pas ces glandes sébacées.
Plante utile
Le bois n'a aucune valeur commerciale, par contre, cette espèce produit un excellent nectar, de plus elle a un fort potentiel dans les jardins et les parcs, elle offre ombre bénéfique et bon abri pour toutes les espèces animales.

PRINTEMPS Sélectionner les graines NOIRES les plus grosses et les plus charnues. Semer les graines à 2mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 18-22°C. Pendant la germination garder le substrat humide et à la lumière du jour. Les graines germent en 3-6 semaines. La viabilité des graines, gardées sous des bonnes conditions, est 10 années.
