Description
C'est un arbre à écorce filandreuse de taille moyenne connu uniquement des zones côtières au sud de Bruthen et des contreforts au nord et à l'est d'Orbost, Victoria, sur un sol sablonneux pauvre. Cette espèce porte le nom de James Andrew McKinty (1916-1999). James McKinty était forestier à la Forestry Commission of Victoria. Il a été forestier de district à Orbost pendant de nombreuses années. Il a collecté cette espèce en 1947, reconnaissant qu'elle était différente des autres écorces filandreuses locales.

Description botanique
C'est un arbre de taille petite à moyenne pouvant atteindre 30m de haut. L'écorce est rugueuse jusqu'aux petites branches, fibreuse, filandreuse, grise à brun rouge. La tige est arrondie en section transversale.
Les feuilles juvéniles sont sessiles ou courtement pétiolées, opposées sur 3 à 5 nœuds puis alternes, oblongues à elliptiques à ovales, de 4,5 à 10,3cm de long, 3,5 à 9cm de large, marge entière à légèrement irrégulière, décolorée, verte à bleu-vert. La tige, le pétiole et le limbe sont scabres jusqu'aux nœuds 9 à 11 sur les plantules, sur les taillis des champs, seules les quelques paires les plus basses (jusqu'à environ 6) sont scabres. La couronne est bleu-vert. Les feuilles adultes sont alternes, sur un pétiole de 1,3 à 2,8cm de long. Le limbe est largement lancéolé à lancéolé à falciforme, long de 8,5–23cm, large de 1,7–5,5cm, base oblique, concolore, légèrement luisant ou terne, vert à bleu-vert. Les nervures latérales sont aiguës, peu à modérément réticulées, la veine intramarginale est parallèle et bien éloignée de la marge, les glandes sébacées sont petites, insulaires ou obscures.
L'inflorescence est axillaire non ramifiée, avec des pédoncules de 0,8–2,2cm de long. Les bourgeons sont en ombelles de 7, 9 ou 11, pédicelles de 0 à 0,5cm de long. Les bourgeons matures sont en forme de losange à ovoïdes, de 0,7–0,8cm de long, 0,3–0,5cm de large, verts, lisses ou rugueux, avec de légers angles longitudinaux, cicatrice absente, opercule conique. Les étamines sont irrégulièrement fléchies, toutes fertiles. Les anthères sont réniformes à cordées, polyvalentes, dorsifixées, déhiscentes par des fentes confluentes. Le style est long, le stigmate effilé, à 3 ou 4 loges. Les fleurs sont blanches.
Le fruit est sur des pédicelles de 0 à 0,3cm de long, en forme de coupe à hémisphérique ou tronqué-globuleux, de 0,5 à 0,7cm de long et de 0,9 à 1,3cm de large. Le disque est plat ou légèrement surélevé, 3 ou 4 soupapes, proche du niveau de la jante ou légèrement exsert. Les graines sont brun foncé, de 1,5 à 3mm de long, pyramidales ou obliquement pyramidales, la surface dorsale est lisse, le hile terminal.
E. makintii se distingue parmi les écorces filandreuses par la couronne vert bleuâtre. Il diffère d'E. macrorhyncha en ce qu'il a un opercule conique (sans bec) et un fruit avec un disque plus ou moins plat (pas bien surélevé). E. globoidea et E. agglomerata se distinguent par leurs grappes de fruits encombrées et par leur croissance en taillis scabre sur au moins 0,5m. E. baxteri diffère d'E. makintii en ce qu'il a une couronne verte, des bourgeons obovoïdes sans angles et des fruits généralement avec un disque surélevé mais, comme E. makintii, a une croissance juvénile scabre sur quelques nœuds.

Les feuilles adultes de toutes les espèces à écorce filandreuse ont une nervation peu réticulée.

Protocole de germination
PRINTEMPS Sélectionner les graines BRUNES les plus grosses et les plus charnues. Semer les graines à 2mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 15-20°C. Pendant la germination garder le substrat humide et à la lumière du jour. Les graines germent en 3-6 semaines. La viabilité des graines, gardées sous des bonnes conditions, est 10 années.
