Description
C'est un grand mallée de distribution restreinte sur le grès autour de Sydney, Nouvelle-Galles du Sud. Il pousse sur des crêtes de grès dans des sols sablonneux pauvres. Cette espèce porte le nom de Johann Georg Luehmann, un botaniste australien allemand qui était le conservateur de l'Herbier national de Victoria et nommé plus tard le botaniste du gouvernement victorien.

Description botanique
C'est un mallée à 7m de haut. Il forme un lignotubercule. L'écorce est lisse, tombant en lanières, blanches à jaunâtres ou brunes, grises ou olive. Les rameaux ont toujours une section transversale carrée proéminente, généralement jaunes mais parfois glauques. Les tiges sont généralement de section carrée.
Les feuilles juvéniles sont opposées et sessiles ou subsessiles pour 3 ou 4 paires, elliptiques, puis pétiolées, alternes, largement lancéolées, de 7 à 17,5cm de long, de 3 à 7,5cm de large. Les bases deviennent obliques, brillantes, vertes. Les feuilles adultes sont alternes, pétiole de 1,7 à 4cm de long. Le limbe est lancéolé à falciforme, de 10 à 20cm de long, de 2 à 4,5cm de large, la base généralement oblique, concolore, brillante, verte, les nervures latérales aiguës, peu à modérément réticulées, la veine intramarginale parallèle et bien éloignée de la marge (parfois doublée ), île aux glandes sébacées.
L'inflorescence est axillaire non ramifiée, pédoncule largement aplati, de 1,5–2,5cm de long. Il y a 11-15 bourgeons par ombelle, des pédicelles de 0,3 à 1,1cm de long. Les bourgeons matures sont claviformes à en forme de losange, de 0,6–1 cm de long, 0,4–0,7cm de large, jaunes, parfois glauques, avec un hypanthium légèrement côtelé longitudinalement, une cicatrice absente, un opercule à bec à conique à pyramidal. Les étamines sont irrégulièrement fléchies, les anthères réniformes à cordées, polyvalentes, dorsifixées, déhiscentes par des fentes confluentes. Le style est long, le stigmate effilé, 5 loges, chacune avec 2 rangées d'ovules verticales. Les fleurs sont blanches.
Le fruit est pédicellé (pédicelles de 0,2 à 1cm de long), en forme de coupe, urcéolé ou en forme de tonneau, de 0,8 à 1,3cm de long, de 0,9 à 1,2cm de large, légèrement côtelé longitudinalement, glauque ou non glauque, disque surélevé et légèrement convexe ou niveau à décroissant, 5 valves, près du niveau de la jante ou fermé. Les graines sont brun foncé, noires ou grises, de 2–3mm de long, pyramidales ou obliquement pyramidales, surface dorsale lisse, hile terminal.
Les plus proches parents sont trois espèces d'arbres : E. fraxinoides, qui a une écorce compacte et rugueuse sur le tronc ; E. delegationnsis, avec son stockage d'écorce rugueuse finement fibreuse et de graines brunes ; et E. oreades, avec son bas court d'écorce rugueuse se détachant en rubans très grossiers.

Plante utile
C'est une gomme idéale pour la culture dans les jardins familiaux, en particulier dans la banlieue de Sydney. Il pourrait également trouver une application dans l'aménagement paysager autour de grands bâtiments. Il répond bien à la taille et au recépage. C'est une espèce attrayante, avec des tiges minces, une écorce lisse, une couronne de grandes feuilles vertes et des bourgeons et des fruits inhabituels.

PRINTEMPS Sélectionner les graines BRUNES les plus grosses et les plus charnues. Semer les graines à 2mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 18-22°C.
