Description
C'est un arbre, rarement un mallée, répandu dans les régions arides et semi-arides de l'Australie, du nord de la rivière Murray en Australie du Sud, s'étendant à l'est jusqu'au centre de la Nouvelle-Galles du Sud jusqu'à Nyngan et au sud jusqu'à Euston, au nord dans le Queensland dans le St George à la région de Dirranbandi et poussant dans une grande partie de l'Australie centrale, en particulier l'extrême nord de l'Australie-Méridionale, y compris les chaînes des Flinders du Nord, et le sud du Territoire du Nord s'étendant jusqu'à la région de Giles-Warburton en Australie-Occidentale. L'épithète de cette espèce vient du latin inter, entre et textus, tissu, se référant à l'écorce fibreuse entrelacée.

Description botanique
C'est un arbre à 20m de haut. Rarement un mallée. Il forme un lignotubercule. L'écorce est rugueuse sur le bas du tronc, rarement sur tout le tronc, épaisse, fibreuse, souvent de type boîte, grise à rouge-brun. Lisse dessus, à prédominance blanche avec des taches grises ou brunes tombant en flocons. Les rameaux sont parfois glauques. Ils manquent de glandes sébacées dans la moelle. Les tiges sont de section ronde ou carrée, généralement lisses, parfois glauques.

Les feuilles juvéniles sont toujours pétiolées, opposées pendant 2 à 7 paires puis alternes, lancéolées, de 3 à 12cm de long, 1 à 3,5cm de large, base effilée, terne, gris-vert à bleu-vert ou glauque. Les feuilles adultes sont alternes, pétiole de 0,5 à 1,5cm de long. Le limbe est lancéolé, de 5 à 16cm de long, 0,8 à 2,5cm de large, la base s'effilant jusqu'au pétiole, concolore, terne, bleu-vert ou gris-vert ou sous-glauque, les nervures latérales à un angle aigu ou plus large par rapport à la nervure médiane, densément réticulé, veine intramarginale parallèle et juste à l'intérieur de la marge ou éloignée de celle-ci (parfois absente), glandes sébacées intersectionnelles ou obscures.

L'inflorescence est composée terminale, ou parfois avec quelques ombelles axillaires également, des pédoncules de 0,5–1,7cm de long. Il y a 7 bourgeons par ombelle, des pédicelles de 0,2 à 0,8cm de long. Les bourgeons matures sont obovoïdes à ovoïdes, longs de 0,4–0,8cm, larges de 0,2–0,4cm, verts ou parfois glauques, hypanthium avec de faibles côtes continuées à partir du pédicelle angulaire, cicatrice présente (opercule externe perdu au début du développement du bourgeon), opercule conique. Les étamines sont infléchies ou irrégulièrement fléchies, les anthères sont subversatiles ou adnées, basifixées, cuboïdes, déhiscentes par des fentes longitudinales. Le style est long, le stigmate émoussé, les chambres ovariennes 4 ou 5 chacune avec 4 rangées d'ovules verticales. Les fleurs sont blanches.

Le fruit est pédicellé (pédicelles de 0,1–0,8cm de long), cupulaire à hémisphérique, de 0,3–0,9cm de long, 0,4–0,8cm de large, parfois légèrement côtelé longitudinalement, disque descendant, 4 ou 5 valves, fermé. Les graines sont brunes, 1–1,7mm de long, ovoïdes ou aplaties-ovoïdes, la surface dorsale est piquée, le hile ventral.

Dans le Queensland, il pourrait être confondu avec l'espèce étroitement apparentée E. orgadophila. E. intertexta diffère légèrement en ayant des fruits légèrement plus petits et des feuilles juvéniles lancéolées (les feuilles juvéniles sont généralement ovales chez E. orgadophila). E. intertexta ne pousse pas dans les plaines inondables à sol argileux lourd où E. microtheca (nord de l'Australie uniquement), E. coolabah et E. largiflorens sont les espèces de buis les plus courantes. E. intertexta peut être davantage séparé d'E. coolabah en ayant des fruits plus gros avec des valves fermées (fortement présents dans E. coolabah). E. largiflorens a une écorce rugueuse qui s'étend jusqu'à de petites branches.

Dans la section Adnataria, Eucalyptus intertexta fait partie d'un sous-groupe, la série Buxeales, qui se distingue en outre par son écorce partiellement rugueuse, ses inflorescences terminales et ses bourgeons qui perdent précocement l'opercule externe.
Plante utile
Le bois rouge est dur et durable mais presque impossible à fendre. Il est utile pour les poteaux de clôture. Il est très ornemental, avec des branches blanches et une couronne de feuillage bleu argenté.
