En mémoire du botaniste James Drummond venu s’installer à Perth en 1829. C’est un Eucalyptus originaire du sud-ouest de Perth jusqu’à Bridgetown et Woodanilling.

Description botanique
C’est un mallee qui forme un lignotuber. Son écorce est lisse sur toute la surface, souvent poudrée. Les tiges juvéniles sont arrondies en coupe transversale.
Les feuilles juvéniles sont toujours pétiolées et alternes, de forme ovale à orbiculaire devenant elliptique. Elles mesurent 5,5 à 8cm de long pour 1,8 à 5,5cm de large, elles sont ternes, vertes à légèrement glauques. Les feuilles adultes sont alternes, sur pétiole de 0,7 à 2,2cm de long. Le limbe est étroitement elliptique à oblong, voire ovale ou lancéolé. Elles mesurent 4 à 7cm de long pour 1 à 2cm de large. La base est atténuée au pétiole, l’apex est acuminé à arrondi, le limbe est terne, vert à bleu-vert. La réticulation des nervures est très dense.
L’inflorescence est axillaire non ramifiée, le pédoncule est parfois pendant et mesure de 0,7 à 3cm de long. Les bourgeons sont au nombre de 7 par ombelle, pedicellés sur 0,2 à 1,2cm de long. À maturité, ils sont ovoïdes, rarement globulaires et parfois glauques. Ils mesurent 0,8 à 1,8cm de long pour 0,4 à 1cm de large. Cicatrice présente. L’opercule est largement conique à arrondi et apiculé. Les anthères sont cuboïdes, polyvalentes, sub-basifixées déhiscentes par fente longitudinales. Le style est long et droit, le stigmate ébouriffé. 3 ou 4 locules. Fleurs blanches.
Le fruit est pédicellé sur 0,3 à 1cm, hémisphérique, il mesure 0,5 à 0,9cm pour 1 à 1,2cm de large. 3 ou 4 valves profondément exertes. Les graines sont brunes, de 1 à 3mm de long, ovoïdes à légèrement angulaires, surface dorsale réticulée, hile ventral.

Dans cette sous-section Eucalyptus drummondii est en série Curviptera sous-série Xylocarpae, l'une des 17 espèces et sous-espèces étroitement apparentées qui sont en outre caractérisées par de gros bourgeons en ombelles d'un, trois ou sept, des filaments staminaux dressés ou obliques (rarement inflexés) en bourgeon, et gros fruit généralement avec un disque ascendant et des valves exercées.

PRINTEMPS Sélectionner les graines BRUNES les plus grosses et les plus charnues. Semer les graines à 2mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 15-20°C. Pendant la germination garder le substrat humide et à la lumière du jour. Les graines germent en 3-6 semaines. La viabilité des graines, gardées sous des bonnes conditions, est 10 années.
