Description
C'est un petit mallee endémique de l'ouest de l'Australie, de l'est de Bendering jusqu'à Salmon Gums et presque jusqu'à Balladonia mais pas sur la côte. L'origine de son nom Eucalyptus cylindriflora vient du latin cylindri qui signifie cylindrique et flora qui veut dire fleur, en référence aux bourgeons cylindriques. Il aime les climats chauds comme dans les régions arides ou semi-arides. Cette espèce tolère la sècheresse et des gelées occasionnelles.

Description botanique
Cet Eucalyptus est un mallee, au lignotuber présent. Son écorce est lisse, blanche à gris pâle et jaunâtre gris.

Les tiges sont arrondies en coupe transversale. Les feuilles juvéniles toujours faiblement pétiolées, opposées puis alternes, lancéolées à linéaires. Elles mesurent de 4 à 8cm de long pour 0,5 à 1,5cm de large, le dessus des feuilles est brillant, vert. Les feuilles adultes sont alternes, dressées, pétiolées de 0,3 à 1,3cm de long, le limbe est linéaire, de 4 à 7,5cm de long pour 0,4 à 1cm de large, la marge est entière, l'apex est pointu, la base atténuée au pétiole. Le limbe est concolore, brillant, vert. La réticulation est éparse à obscure. La nervure intra marginale est présente.

L'inflorescence est axillaire non ramifiée, avec un pédoncule mince mesurant 0,9 à 2,7cm de long et composée de 7 bourgeons par ombelles, avec un long pédicelle de 0,4 à 1cm de long. Les bourgeons matures sont ovoïdes à cylindrique. Les bourgeons mesurent de 1 à 1,3cm long pour 0,4 à 0,7cm de large. La cicatrice est présente. L'opercule est conique. Les étamines sont fortement inflexées, les anthères sont oblongues, polyvalentes, dorsifixées, déhiscentes par des fentes longitudinales, le style est long et droit, le stigmate est émoussé à faiblement dilaté. 4 ou 5 locules présentes. Les fleurs sont de couleur blanc crème de janvier à mars.

Le fruit est pédicellé de 0,3 à 1,2cm de long, cylindrique à cupulaire, de 0,6 à 1cm de long pour 0,6 à 0,9cm de large, 4 ou 5 valves au niveau du bord. Les graines sont de couleur brune, de 0,5 à 1,5mm de long, aplaties-ovoïdes, à surface dorsale clairement réticulée, hile ventral.

Dans cette grande sous-section Eucalyptus cylindriflora est étroitement liée à un groupe de mallettes et de maillets (série Elongatae) reconnus par les feuilles vertes brillantes avec de nombreuses glandes sébacées obscurcissant la réticulation mais pas les nervures latérales principales, des bourgeons avec de très longs pédicelles bien visibles, des opercules courts et larges , étamines inflexées et ovules en 6 rangées verticales.
Plante utile
Cet Eucalyptus produit du miel en abondance, il est donc sollicité dans les plantations pour les apiculteurs.

PRINTEMPS Sélectionner les graines BRUNES les plus grosses et les plus charnues. Semer les graines à 2mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 15-20°C. Pendant la germination garder le substrat humide et à la lumière du jour. Les graines germent en 3-6 semaines. La viabilité des graines, gardées sous des bonnes conditions, est 10 années.
