Description
Ce mallee ou petit arbre est originaire du Sud-ouest de l'Australie de Karalee vers l'Est et particulièrement entre Coolgardie et Norseman, habituellement sur des roches granitiques. L'origine de son nom Eucalyptus aspratilis vient du latin aspratilis qui signifie rugueux, écailleux se référant à l'écorce.

Description botanique
Ce mallee forme un lignotuber. Son écorce est rugueuse sur les 2 premiers mètres du tronc. Ensuite celle-ci devient lâche, et de desquame en rubans, ou elle est parfois lisse de partout, de couleur grise à brun noire, ou gris argenté à gris brun pâle.
La tige est arrondie en coupe transversale. Les feuilles juvéniles sont toujours pétiolées, alternes, ovales à lancéolées. Elles mesurent de 2,5 à 7cm de long et de 1,5 à 2,5cm de large. Sa couleur est terne, bleu gris non glauque. Les feuilles adultes mesurent 5,5 à 10cm de long pour 1 à 2,2cm de large, elles sont alternes et pétiolées de 0,7 à 2cm de long, le limbe est lancéolé. La base effilée uniformément au pétiole. Le bord est entier, l'apex est pointu, concolore, initialement terne vert bleuâtre et murissant vert brillant. La réticulation est clairsemée, la nervure intra marginale est présente ou obscure.
L'inflorescence est axillaire non ramifiée, le pédoncule est étroitement angulé à aplati et plus large apicalement, il mesure 1,5 à 4,7cm de long, composée de 7 bourgeons par ombelles, pédicellés atteignant 0,8cm de long. Le bourgeon mature est allongé à fusiforme asymétrique. Le bourgeon mesure 2 à 3cm de long pour 0,5 à 0,7cm de large. La cicatrice est présente. L'opercule est en forme de corne, 2 à 3 fois la longueur de l'hypanthium. Les étamines sont dressées. Les anthères sont oblongues, polyvalentes, dorsifixées, déhiscentes par de fentes longitudinales, le style est long et droit. Les locules sont au nombre de 4 voire 5. Les fleurs de couleur crème à jaune pâle ou vert jaunâtre apparaissent en mai, juillet et août.
Le fruit est tourné vers le bas, pédicellé de 0,4 à 0,8cm de long, généralement cylindrique ou moins communément obconique. Le fruit mesure 1 à 1,5cm de long pour 0,7 à 1,2cm de large, 4 (ou 5) valves présentes. Les graines sont brun noirâtre, de 1 à 2mm de long, ovoïdes, à aplaties-ovoïdes, surface dorsale réticulée peu profondément, hile ventral.
Cet Eucalyptus ressemble à l'Eucalyptus occidentalis var occidentalis et diffère par son habitat non marécageux, sa hauteur inférieure, son fruit habituellement cupulaire à cylindrique, et sa distribution plus à l'est.

Dans cette sous-section Eucalyptus aspratilis appartient à un sous-groupe, série Erectae sous-série Pedicellatae reconnu par la surface de la feuille verte brillante, feuilles avec de nombreuses glandes sébacées mais n'obscurcissant pas la nervure secondaire, pédoncules longs et aplatis ou cylindriques, inflorescences s'étendant à pendantes et bourgeons avec un long opercule et des étamines dressées issues d'un staminophore étroit.

PRINTEMPS Sélectionner les graines NOIRES les plus grosses et les plus charnues. Semer les graines à 2mm de profondeur dans le Terreau drainant pour semis entre 15-20°C. Pendant la germination garder le substrat humide et à la lumière du jour. Les graines germent en 3-6 semaines. La viabilité des graines, gardées sous des bonnes conditions, est 10 années.
