Description
It is native to mountainous areas, in rocky-gravelly places (particularly stony slopes and limestone screes), from Greece to the Balkans and Turkey. It is best grown in sandy to gritty, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun. It performs well in limestone soils. Specific epithet comes from the Latin word ulicinus meaning resembling the ancient Latin genus Ulex (gorse, furze, whin).

Botanical Description
Acantholimon ulicinum is a cushion-forming sub-shrub of the plumbago or leadwort family. It grows to 15cm tall with a spread to 30cm wide or more. Plants feature crowded, rigid, hard-textured, spiny-tipped, linear, needle-like leaves (to 2cm long). Five-petaled pink flowers in short-stalked inflorescences bloom in early summer.
Useful plant
This species is used in rock gardens and alpine gardens.

SPRING Keep in refrigerator at 39°F for 8 weeks in humid substrat. Sow the seeds at 2mm depth in the Well Drained Seed Sowing Mix between 59-68°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The seeds germinate in 3-12 weeks.
The average seed weight is 211,6 per gram (0,004725g).
