Botanical Description
This is a much branched shrub up to 2m tall. The stems are densely leafy, sparse to densely appressed white-tomentose, dotted with orange-red gland-dots. The leaves are petiolate. The blade is simple, thickish or thin-textured, suborbicular to elliptic or narrowly obovate, 15-35 x 6-20mm, grey-tomentose, gland-dotted, apex rounded to obtuse, base cuneate to cordate or shortly lobed, margin usually entire but sometimes crenate-dentate to eroso-crenate (the larger leaves). The petiole is 2-15mm long.

The inflorescence is simple, usually dense, of 3-12 verticils. The verticils are 2-flowered. The bracts are broadly ovate or obovate, persistent. The calyx is broad-campanulate, expanding to 30mm long in fruit, purplish and membranous, with short spreading glandular and eglandular hairs, dotted with orange-red gland-dots. The corolla is golden brown, reddish brown, khaki or occasionally purplish, 35-45mm long. The tube is circa 20mm long, upper lip circa 25mm long, slightly falcate. The lower lip is circa 12mm long.
Useful plant
The flowers contain a lot of sweet nectar which attracts bees and moths, and acts as an essential food supply for sunbirds.

Medicinal plant
It makes an excellent tea for coughs, colds, bronchitis and ‘female’ ailments.
