Botanical Description
This is an erect subshrub 1-1.5m high, branches above the base. The branches are quadrangular, slightly ridged on angles, densely hairy. The branches are with simple, short, antrorse eglandular hairs and subsessile hemispherical glands. The internodes are with short and long hairs, short hairs 0.1-0.2mm long, translucent throughout or with gland white to pale golden-colored, long hairs 0.5-0.9mm long. The nodes are with longer spreading hairs 1-1.5mm long, moderately glandular with hemispherical, subsessile glands.
The leaves are aromatic, with petiole 7-8mm long. The lamina is ovate to broadly ovate, less frequently elliptic, greyish green, 40-50mm long, 6-20mm wide, with length 1-1.7 times width, distance from base of maximum width 0.3-0.5 times total lamina length. The abaxial surface is sparsely glandular hairy (average density 8-10 hairs per mm2), hairs patent, circa 0.1mm long, with longer hairs on veins and margin (hairs 0.2-0.4mm long), very densely covered with subsessile glands (as per branches). The adaxial surface is moderately glandular hairy (average density circa 12 hairs per mm2), hairs patent, 0.8-1.3mm long, densely covered with subsessile glands (as for branches). The base is decurrent. The margin is serrate, slightly recurved, with apex of teeth rounded to subacute (when lacerate). The apex is subacute. The venation is distinct, midvein and secondary veins slightly raised on abaxial surface.
The inflorescence is frondose-bracteose, many-flowered. The uniflorescence is dichasial, 7-15-flowered (7-flowered distally). The podium is 2-5.5mm long, densely hairy (as for branches), hairs 0.1-0.3mm long. The prophylls are persistent, inserted near middle of podium (propodium 2-3mm long, anthopodium 1.8-2mm long, with propodium 1-1.5 times length of anthopodium), opposite to subopposite. The lamina is narrowly triangular, 1-1.3mm long, circa 0.2mm wide, slightly concave lengthwise to almost flat, densely hairy with short hairs (as for branches). The calyx is dull green, campanulate. The outer surface is densely hairy with short hairs (as for branches), midveins prominent, ridged, with slightly longer glandular hairs. The tube is 1-1.5mm long, inner surface glabrous. The lobes are equal, narrowly triangular, circa 2mm long, 0.8-1mm wide at base, with length 2-2.5 times width, inner surface sparsely hairy (hairs as for branches), apex subacute. The corolla is 6-7.5mm long, white. The outer surface of lobes is moderately hairy, eglandular hairs 0.1-0.2mm long, translucent to white, simple, multicellular, spreading to antrorse, sparsely to moderately glandular with subsessile hemispherical glands. The inner surface is sparsely hairy in tube, with hairs simple, spreading, circa 0.1mm long. The tube is 1.5-2mm long. The lobes are glabrous, or with an occasional eglandular hair, inconspicuously glandular with minute, subsessile hemispherical glands. The abaxial median lobe is spathulate, slightly involute-conduplicate, 6-9mm long, 2-2.5mm wide, apex rounded. The lateral lobes and adaxial median lobe pair is slightly elliptic to oblong, 2-3mm long, each lobe 1-1.3mm wide, with length 2-2.3 times width, apex obtuse. The stamens are inserted 0.5-0.7mm above base of corolla. The filaments are arching towards adaxial inner surface of corolla, 6-8mm long, sparsely hairy near base (as for inner surface of corolla tube), abaxial filament-pair longer than adaxial filaments. The anthers are 0.5-0.6mm long, circa 0.3mm wide, connective with a line of hemispherical, white glands. The pistil is 10-11mm long. The ovary is cylindrical to slightly obovoid, 0.3-0.5mm long, diameter 0.6-0.7mm, lobes circa 0.1mm long, moderately hairy distally, with hairs eglandular, white, curled, moderately glandular (glands subsessile, hemispherical). The style is circa 9mm long, strongly curved (towards adaxial plane). The stigma lobes are 0.7-1mm long, slightly unequal, soon becoming strongly reflexed.
The fruiting propodium and anthopodium are extended to circa 3mm long. The fruiting calyx is enlarged, 3-4mm long, mouth 2-2.5mm diameter (compared to circa 1mm diameter in flower), becoming pale brown, densely glandular. The mature mericarps are 1.5-2mm long, surface light to dark brown, with irregular longitudinal ridges (corrugated), moderately hairy and glandular (as for ovary).
