Description
This species occurs in trampled or saline soils, 0-1100m. It is from the Mediterranean region, also in the Atlantic areas of Europe to Finland and western Asia. It is introduced in North America, New Zealand and Australia, and probably in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Botanical Description
This species is an annual herb. The leaves are in a basal rosette, appressed-horizontal, linear-pinnatifid, 40-200 x 2-5mm, pubescent, amplexicaul. There are many scapes per rosette, 70-320mm long. The peduncles are horizontal below, erect above.
The spikes are erect, 20-120mm long. The bracts are glabrescent, apices acute. The calyx lobes are narrowly elliptic, 2 x 1mm, acute. The corolla lobes are deltoid, 1.0 x 0.7mm, subacute.
The capsule is ellipsoid, 2.5 x 2.0mm. The seeds are rounded-tetrahedral, 2-4 per capsule, greenish brown, 1.0-1.3 x 0.6-0.7mm, hilum scar at apex, small.

The spikes are erect, 20-120mm long. The bracts are glabrescent, apices acute. The calyx lobes are narrowly elliptic, 2 x 1mm, acute. The corolla lobes are deltoid, 1.0 x 0.7mm, subacute.
The capsule is ellipsoid, 2.5 x 2.0mm. The seeds are rounded-tetrahedral, 2-4 per capsule, greenish brown, 1.0-1.3 x 0.6-0.7mm, hilum scar at apex, small.
