Pentapogon micranthus       0

This is an erect, sparsely-tufted grass to 80cm tall. The flowerheads are dense contracted panicles (6-22cm long). The spikelets have 1 floret with an awn 6-33mm long that arises near the apex of the lemma and varies from almost straight to curved, bent and twisted. The lemma is 2.5-4mm long and shorter than the glumes. It flowers from late winter to summer.

It has some use as a forage species since it produces leaf growth during winter. It makes an interesting ornamental grass for gardens but is rarely grown.

SPRING Sow the seeds at 2mm depth in the Well Drained Seed Sowing Mix and pouwder with 2mm Smoked Vermiculite (0,012g/cm²) between 64-72°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The seeds germinate in 2-12 weeks. The results are erratic.
