Eucalyptus drummondii Observed in Australia by K J Tullis (license)
Botanical Description
It is a mallee that forms a lignotuber. Its bark is smooth over the entire surface, often powdery. Juvenile stems are rounded in cross section.
The juvenile leaves are always petiolate and alternate, from ovate to orbicular to elliptical. The adult leaves are alternate, on a petiole from 0.7 to 2.2cm long. The blade is narrowly elliptical to oblong, to ovate or lanceolate. They measure 4 to 7cm long and 1 to 2cm wide. The base is tapered to the petiole, the apex is acute to rounded, the blade is dull, green to blue-green. The reticulation of the veins is very dense.
The inflorescence is axillary unbranched, the peduncle is sometimes pendulous and is 0.7 to 3cm long. There are 7 buds per umbel, pedicellate from 0.2 to 1.2cm long. The mature buds are ovoid, rarely globular and sometimes glaucous. They measure 0.8 to 1.8cm long and 0.4 to 1cm wide. Scar present. The operculum is broadly conical to rounded and apiculate. The anthers are cuboid, versatile, sub-basifixed, dehiscent by longitudinal slits. The style is long and straight, the stigma blunt. 3 or 4 locules. White flowers.
The fruit is pedicled from 0.3 to 1cm, hemispherical, it measures 0.5 to 0.9cm for 1 to 1.2cm wide. 3 or 4 deeply exserted valves. The seeds are brown, 1 to 3mm long, ovoid to slightly angular, dorsal surface reticulate, ventral hilum.

Member of
The Genus: Eucalyptus Subgenus: Symphyomyrtus Section: Bisectae Subsection: Destitutae Serie: Curviptera Subserie: Xylocarpae having the following characters: The buds have two opercula, cotyledons are Y-shaped and branchlets lack oil glands in the pith. Within this subsection Eucalyptus drummondii is in series Curviptera subseries Xylocarpae, one of about 17 closely related species and subspecies which are further characterised by having large buds in umbels of one, three or seven, staminal filaments erect or oblique (rarely inflexed) in bud, and large fruit usually with an ascending disc and exserted valves.

Sowing instructions
SPRING Select the largest and most fleshy BROWN seeds. Sow the seeds at 2mm depth in the Well Drained Seed Sowing Mix between 59-68°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The seeds germinate in 3-6 weeks. The viability of the seeds, kept under good conditions, is 10 years.
The average seed weight is 58,0 per gram (0,01725g).
