Description
It is a small endemic mallee from western Australia, from eastern Bendering to Salmon Gums and almost to Balladonia but not on the coast. The origin of its name Eucalyptus cylindriflora comes from the Latin ‘cylindri’ which means cylindrical and ‘flora’ which means flower, in reference to the cylindrical buds. He likes warm climates like arid or semi-arid regions. This species tolerates drought and occasional frosts.

Botanical Description
This mallee has a lignotuber present. Its bark is smooth, white to pale gray and yellowish gray.
The stems are rounded in cross section. The juvenile leaves always weak petiolate, opposite then alternate, lanceolate to linear. They are 4 to 8cm long and 0.5 to 1.5cm wide, the top of the leaves is glossy, green. The adult leaves are alternate, erect, petiolate 0.3 to 1.3cm long, the blade is linear, 4 to 7.5cm long and 0.4 to 1cm wide, the margin is entire, the apex is pointed, the base is tapering to the petiole. The blade is concolorous, glossy, green. The reticulation is sparse to obscure. The intra-marginal vein is present.
The inflorescence is unbranched axillary, with a thin peduncle measuring 0.9 to 2.7cm long and composed of 7 buds per umbel, with a long pedicel 0.4 to 1cm long. The mature buds are ovoid to cylindrical. The buds are 1 to 1.3cm long and 0.4 to 0.7cm wide. The scar is present. The operculum is conical. The stamens are strongly inflexed, the anthers are oblong, versatile, dorsifixed, dehiscing by longitudinal slits, the style is long and straight, the stigma is blunt to slightly dilated. 4 or 5 locules present. The flowers are creamy white from January to March.
The fruit is pedicelled 0.3 to 1.2cm long, cylindrical to cupular, 0.6 to 1cm long and 0.6 to 0.9cm wide, 4 or 5 valves at rim level. The seeds are brown in color, 0.5 to 1.5mm long, flattened-ovoid, with a clearly reticulated dorsal surface, ventral hilum.

The Genus: Eucalyptus Subgenus: Symphyomyrtus Section: Bisectae Subsection: Glandulosae Serie: Elongatae having the following characters: The buds have an operculum scar, cotyledons are bisected and branchlets have oil glands in the pith. Within this large subsection Eucalyptus cylindriflora is closely related to a group of mallees and mallets (series Elongatae) recognised by the glossy green leaves with many oil glands obscuring the reticulation but not the main side-veins, buds with very long conspicuous pedicels, short broad opercula, inflexed stamens and ovules in 6 vertical rows.
Useful plant
This Eucalyptus produces honey in abundance, it is therefore sought in plantations for beekeepers.

Sowing instructions
SPRING Select the largest and most fleshy BROWN seeds. Sow the seeds at 2mm depth in the Well Drained Seed Sowing Mix between 59-68°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The seeds germinate in 3-6 weeks. The viability of the seeds, kept under good conditions, is 10 years.
