Description
This mallee is native to Southwest Australia, specifically in the Jarrah Forest southeast of Perth, Boyup Brook and south of Kokonup in Narrogin and extends further north towards Boomer Hill. The origin of its name Eucalyptus aspersa comes from the Latin ‘aspersus’ which means dispersed, this refers to the occurrences of the species in the forests of Jarrah. This Eucalyptus grows in calcareous soils, with a warm climate all year round, with a humid summer and a dry winter. It likes very well drained soils and a sunny location; he is sensitive to cold periods. This species can grow very slowly when young. Its seedlings germinate quickly but it is not uncommon to see a sowing of seedlings immediately after.

Botanical Description
This mallee forms a lignotuber. Its bark is generally rough on most stems, flaky and fibrous, kept in loose patches, light gray to yellowish brown, rarely with almost smooth bark.
The stem is square to rounded in cross section. The juvenile leaves are shortly petiolate, alternate, elliptical to ovate. They are 2 to 7.5cm long and 1.4 to 3cm wide. Its color is bluish green. The adult leaves are 5.5 to 12cm long and 1 to 2cm wide, they are alternate and petiolate 0.5 to 2cm long, the blade is narrowly lanceolate to sometimes falcate. The base is tapering to the petiole. The color of the leaves is concolorous, light green and slightly glossy. Reticulation is moderate to dense. The intra-marginal vein is parallel to and just inside the margin.
The inflorescence is unbranched axillary, the peduncle is 0.5 to 1.2cm long, composed of 7 buds per umbel, pedicels up to 0.4cm long. The mature bud is narrowly ovoid. The bud measures 0.8 to 1.1cm long and 0.3 to 0.4cm wide. De knop meet 0,8 tot 1,1 cm lang en 0,3 tot 0,4cm breed. The scar is present. The operculum is beaked and is 0.5 to 0.8cm long. The stamens are irregularly flexed or rarely inflexed. The anthers are weakly versatile, basifixed, globoid, dehiscing by lateral pores, the style is long, the stigma is tapered. There are 3 or 4 locules. The white flowers appear from August to November.
The fruit is 0.2 to 0.3cm long, pedicelled, usually urceolate, sometimes truncate-globose to cup-shaped. The fruit measures 0.4 to 0.8cm long and 0.4 to 0.7cm wide, 3 or 4 valves present. The seeds are brown or gray, 0.9 to 1.1mm long, ovoid, flattened-ovoid, smooth dorsal surface with sometimes shallow longitudinal furrows, ventral hilum.

Within this subsection Eucalyptus aspersa is part of the large taxonomic series Subulatae further characterised by globoid basifixed anthers, grey smooth seeds with shallow longitudinal furrows, and fruit with persistent exserted style remnants. Series Subulatae is divided principally into four subseries based on the juvenile leaves. Subseries Decussatae with decussate non-decurrent seedling leaves.

SPRING Select the largest and most fleshy BROWN seeds. Sow the seeds at 2mm depth in the Well Drained Seed Sowing Mix between 59-68°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The seeds germinate in 3-6 weeks. The viability of the seeds, kept under good conditions, is 10 years.
