Description
This Andean species is widely distributed in Chile. In Argentina, it only grows in Chubut province, in Lago Menéndez and Lago Puelo, associated with humid Valdivian forest.
Botanical Description
These shrubs reaching 3m in height, with many extended stems, the youngest reddish-brown, straight, rigid, costate, and conspicuously winged. The wings are undulate, and shortly pubescent; the oldest stems with a papyraceous cortex detached.

The leaves are subcoriaceous, lanceolate to obovate-lanceolate, rarely oblong, acute apex, frequently 3-6 fasciculate, the distal ones gradually smaller, sub-crenated-serrate, margin with glands, 1-2.5 x 0.4-0.7cm. The adaxial face is pubescent only on the middle nerve, subsessile.

The flowers are arranged in leafy pseudo-racemes of 7-10 flowers. The pedicels are 3-4mm long, puberulous. It has 2 bracteoles, lanceolate, 2mm long, with glands in the margin. The hypanthium is glabrous or scarcely pilose, turbinate, 1-1.3mm long. The calyx tube is circa 1-1.5mm long, calyx lobes triangular-subulate, ciliolate, sometimes with glands in the margin, 1-1.5mm long. The petals are linear-spathulate, white or pink, 8-10 x 2-3mm. The stamens are 6-10mm long, intrastaminal disc markedly conical, 2-2.5mm long. The style is 7-8mm, apex connate, free to the base. The stigma is capitate.

The capsule is 4-5mm, turbinate, brown, dull.
