Dryopteris corleyi 0
Author: Christopher Roy Fraser-Jenkins (1948-)Family: Polypodiaceae Subfamily: Dryopteridoideae
Genus: Dryopteris
English name: Corley's wood fern
Zone: Mediterranean
Description
This species is dedicated to the British botanist Hugh Corley and was only described in 1982. It is located on the Atlantic border of north-eastern Spain (where it is endemic). Its strong presence in its small range suggests a recent taxon in the process of expansion (Prelli 2001).It is a species of hybrid origin, tetraploid, with probable parents Dryopteris aemula and Dryopteris aoreades. It can easily be confused with Dryopteris filix-mas which is distinguished by a triangular blade, not reduced at the base, with broad and asymmetrical pinnae.
On the other hand, it is subservient to the humid moors, to the valleys along the ocean whose humidity is constant and only on sandstone. In his remarkable guide to ferns, Rémy Prelli tells us that this plant is maintained when the environment is colonized by Eucalyptus.
