Description
This species is from the French Basque Country, Cantabrian Coast and western part of the Iberian Peninsula. It is very localized in the western Mediterranean basin, in Andalusia and Corsica. Recently discovered in Italy (Lombardy), also reported in Sicily, but without certainty. The plants occur on sheltered sites, with high atmospheric humidity and low temperature variations, in a warm oceanic climate. It grows in crevices of damp siliceous rocks, in undergrowth and in deep valleys or ravines, sometimes also on damp and shaded embankments, from 50 to 200m altitude in the Basque Country and from 300 to 700m in Corsica. In Europe it occurs in the same biotopes throughout the range of the species, but reaches higher altitudes in the Iberian Peninsula where it is reported up to around 1300m.
Experiences
Taxon adapted to very cool and very humid environments, conditions difficult to reproduce here, especially in summer. Survives but does not enjoy.
