Description
Asplenium platyneuron is an ecological generalist and is particularly characteristic of disturbed woodlands. It lives on forest floor or on rocks, often invading masonry and disturbed soils from 0-1300m of sea level. It occurs in southern Africa as well as in North America and is migrating northwards on the northern portions of its range.
Experiences
A few seedlings but are clearly in the process of collapsing for no specific reason... Spores had been collected and will allow us to redo the tests, but species a priori more complicated to cultivate here than it seems.

Botanical Description
The roots are not proliferous. The stems are short-creeping, unbranched. The scales are dark brown to black throughout, narrowly linear-deltate, 2-4 x 0.3-0.6mm, margins entire.
The leaves are more or less dimorphic. The fertile leaves are taller and more erect than sterile leaves. The petiole is reddish brown throughout, lustrous, 1-10cm, 1/4-1/3 length of blade, indument of dark brown to black, filiform scales at base. The blade is lustrous, linear to narrowly oblanceolate, 1-pinnate throughout, 4-50 x 2-5cm, thin, glabrous, or occasionally sparsely pubescent. The base is gradually tapered. The apex is acute, not rooting. The rachis is reddish or purplish brown throughout, lustrous, glabrous. The pinnae are in 15-45 pairs, oblong to quadrangular. The medial pinnae are 1-2.5 x 0.3-0.5cm. The base is with conspicuous acroscopic and sometimes basiscopic auricle, this overlapping rachis. The margins are crenate to serrulate, sometimes more deeply incised in robust specimens. The apex is acute to obtuse. The veins are free, evident. The sori are in 1-12 pairs per pinna, on both basiscopic and acroscopic sides. There are 64 spores per sporangium.
