This is a tuberous herb sprouting in autumn from a discoid, vertically orientated tuber, 3-3.5cm across, 1.5-2cm thick. The petiole is terete, 6-35cm long, 2.5-4mm wide, dark green suffused with purple, especially at the base.

The leaf-blade is oblong-hastate, apex acute to rather obtuse, 5-11cm long, 2-6cm wide, dark green.

The inflorescence is unscented. The peduncle is exceeding the leaves, terete, 10.5-45cm long, 3.5-5.5mm wide, dark green, longitudinally striped and stained with purple. The spathe is 8-14cm long. The spathe-tube is ellipsoid-cylindric, 1.5-3cm long, 1-1.5cm wide, tapering apically, exterior pale green, stained with purple, especially along the margin and at the base, interior dark purple. The spathe-limb is ovate-lanceolate, 6.5-11cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, cucullate, acute to briefly acuminate, externally pale greenish stained with purple along the margin and at the base, internally greenish white with a broad, purple margin. The spadix is subequal to the spathe-limb, 4-7cm in total length. The appendix is very slender-cylindric, stalkless, 2.5-4.5cm long, 2.5-2.2mm wide, dark purple. The staminodes are in circa 4 whorls forming a zone 3-7cm long. The bristles are filiform, flexuous, abundant, 2.5-5mm long, cream with the upper 1/3 violet. The bases are barely conic, smooth, pale mauve. The upper interstices are 1-2mm long, smooth, cream. The lower interstices are 0-0.5mm long, smooth, cream. The staminate flowers are in a oblong zone 1.5-4mm long, 2-3mm wide. The anthers and connectives are violet. The pistillodes are in 1 whorl forming a zone 0.7-3.7mm long, sometimes absent. The bristles are filiform, flexuous, 2-4mm long, cream, minutely tipped with violet. The bases are absent. The pistillate flowers are in a cylindrical cluster, 6-10mm long. The ovaries are globose, 1.5-2mm long, cream, with a very faint pale mauve ring around the stigma, stigma white.

The fruiting spike is cylindrical, 3-4.5cm long, 1.5-2cm wide. The berries are oblong, 5-9mm long, 2.5-3.5mm wide. The germination is unknown.

AUTUMN Keep in refrigerator at 39°F in dry condition. Soak the seeds in ambient water for 24h (Change the water every 12 hours) until the seeds swell. Sow the seeds at 10mm depth in the Bulb Substrate between 68-77°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The viability of the seeds, kept under good conditions, is one year.
