The most important dwarf shrub of the sand vegetation in the coastal sands, the Western Negev, and northern Sinai.
Artemisia monosperma Observed in Israel by Ron Frumkin (license)
Botanical Description
In sites with mobile sand where Artemisia monosperma grows, biogenic hills develop as a result of the plant growth above the sand covering it. Such hills may become 5m above the physical dune surface. Artemisia monosperma plants may resist sand deflation by its corky bark protecting the exposed roots from desiccation. The leaves are succulent. Spines are absent. The fruits are green.
