Botanical Description
This is a little or no aromatic subshrub, with basal or subbasal shoots, glabrous, often glutinous, greenish. The stems are 35-90cm, branched from the base, ascending or erect, not very foliage, often reddish-brown at least in the basal half, glabrous, except pubescent at the base.

The lower and middle leaves are 2-3.5 x 1-2cm, fasciculate, often glutinous at the base of young fascicles, spatulate-flabellate, 1-2 pinnatisect, with 15-20mm petiole, sometimes pectinate, glandular-dotted, sometimes densely arranged, not fleshy, glabrous, very rarely pubescent, dull green, sometimes somewhat pruinose, with segments of last order of 5-15 x 0.3-0.6mm, filiform, canaliculate, with revolute margin and median vein highlighted by the underside, mucronate. The upper ones are trisected to entire. Those at the apex of the shoots are often glutinous at the base.

The inflorescence is 15-40 x 7-30cm, in panicle usually very open, with 14-20 branches of 5-20cm, erect-patent or ascending, lax, with numerous capitula, very branched, sometimes intricate, usually foliose towards the base, with pinnatisect or entire leaves, glutinous when fresh, with a varnished appearance when dried, especially at the nodes and on the axis in flowering, or non-glutinous. The capitula are 2.3-3 x 1.5-1.7mm, heterogamous and disciform, ovoid or ellipsoid, with 5-10 flowers, erect or erect-patent, usually sessile, sometimes with a peduncle of 0.5-1.5mm. The bract is 1-2 x circa 0.3mm, linear. The involucre is 2.3-3 x 1.5-1.7mm, ovoid or ellipsoid, not umbilicate, shiny, often glutinous at the base in flowering, glabrous. The bracts are in 3 or 4 series, the outer ones 1-1.5 x 0.8-1mm, ovoid, obtuse, widely scarious on the margin, the inner ones 2.3-2.5 x 1-1.3mm, lanceolate, narrowly scarious on the margin. The receptacle is 0.7-1 x circa 0.5mm, subconical or subcylindrical, glabrous. The outer flowers are female, tubular; corolla 1.1-1.2mm, filiform, with 0-2 poorly defined lobes, with some glands, yellowish. It has hermaphrodite florets, functionally male, with the ovary aborted and punctate. The corolla is 2-2.5mm, with few glands, yellowish but with a pink, reddish or purple apex.

The achenes are 1-1.5 x 0.6-0.8mm, obovoid, finely striated, with subteminal stylar scar, rounded at the apex, glabrous, dark brown.
