This is a caespitose perennial herb with a branched woody stock. The leaves are in a basal rosette, muticous, dimorphic. Those of the two outermost rows linear-spathulate, shorter and wider than the inner, 20-45 x 2-4mm. The inner is linear-lanceolate or linear, flat or revolute, 36-75 x 1.1-2mm. The scape is robust, without glands, 15-35cm long and 0.9-1.3mm in diameter. The top of the scape is enclosed in a tubular scarious sheath 10-40mm long.

The inflorescence is a dense capitulum 12-20mm in diameter, with an involucre of imbricate bracts, composed of bracteate spikelets. The outer bracts are shorter than or equaling the inner, with a straight apex. The inner ones are with wide scarious margins. The calyx is infundibuliform, obliquely inserted, 6-9.5mm long, with a short basal spur. The tube is 10-ribbed, hairy on both primary and secondary ribs. The limb is scarious with awned lobes. The corolla is pinkish or white. The stigmas are plumose. The fruit is dehiscent.
