Description
Aristida adscensionis occurs throughout tropical Africa and has also been introduced to the USA. It occurs in disturbed soil such as along roadsides and on bare patches in natural grazing. It grows in all types of soil.

Botanical Description
This is a tufted annual to 1m high, erect, often branched.
The leaf blade is to 300 x 3mm. The inflorescence is 10-50mm wide, narrowly oblong to lanceolate, usually spike-like, interrupted at base. The side branches are adpressed to the main axis, sometimes the branches are open and spreading. The spikelets are densely clustered on branches. The spikelet is 10-40mm long (including awns).
The lower glume is 2/3-3/4 the length of the upper glume, sometimes with a mucro or short awn to 0.8mm long. The lemma is laterally compressed, articulation and column are absent, usually only the keel is scabrid. There are three awns, laterals well developed, shorter than central awn. The callus is with rounded, naked apex. The anther is 1-1.3mm long.

Sowing instructions
SPRING Keep in refrigerator at 39°F in dry condition. Sow the seeds at 4mm depth in the Well Drained Seed Sowing Mix between 64-72°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The seeds germinate in 4-8 weeks.
