Description
This is a common plant on the northern slopes of Gran Canaria, extending from Monte Lentiscal in the north-eastern part of the island to Cruz de Tejeda in the west central slopes. Usual habitats are Pinus canariensis savanna at higher altitudes and xerophytic scrubland dominated by Cytisus canariensis and Euphorbia obtustfolia on lower slopes, 400-1200m. The basal rocks consist mainly of Miocene basalts, tufts and pouzzolane.

Botanical Description
The stems are up to 60cm, erect, usually branched throughout the plant, pubescent to scabridulous. The leaves are 1.5-9 x 0.6-4cm, obovate, bi-pinnatifid to bi-pinnatisect, sessile, pubescent to tomentose. There are 4-20 primary lobes, 2-25 x 2-12mm, opposite or almost so, acute. There are 2-6 secondary lobes, 1-9 x 3mm, opposite to alternate, tomentose to pubescent, acute.
The inflorescence is corymbose with 5-20 capitula. The bracts are leaf-like to linear-oblong. The peduncles are 1-8cm. The involucre is 4-12mm in diameter. The bracts are in 3 series, triangular to obovate-oblong in outline. The outer bracts are fleshy with a narrow scarious border. The inner bracts are scarious, usually with an expanded apex. The ray florets are 10-15 x 2-3.5mm, white. The apex is 1-3-fid. The disc florets are 3-4mm, the corolla lobes yellow, the tubes white.
The ray cypselas are 2.5-4.2 x 1.3-6.5mm, turbinate, trigonous to semi-terete in transverse section, the dorsal surface arcuate, the ventral surface slightly concave or flat, wingless, coalesced together in groups of 2-5. The pappus is absent or present as a narrow marginal ridge with a convex-conical floret abscission scar at the apex. The disc cypselas are 1.6-2 x 0.5-1mm, obconical, terete, wingless, usually sterile, light brown to chestnut in color.

Sowing instructions
SPRING Soak in acetone with 0.1% Gibberellic acid GA3, just covering the seeds, for 30 min then wash thoroughly in running tap water. Sow the seeds at 3mm depth in the Well Drained Seed Sowing Mix between 59-68°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The seeds germinate in 4-6 weeks.
