Botanical Description
The plant is stemless, suckering to form low clumps.
The leaves are rosulate, spreading from a swollen base, Iinear-lanceolate, 15-27 x 1-2.5cm, thinly fleshy, upper surface channelled, yellowish-green, covered in whitish spots. The margins are cartilaginous, with fringe-like teeth to 1mm long, 2-6mm apart. The sap is pale yellow.
The inflorescence is simple or rarely with one branch, erect to 50-75cm high. The peduncle is with 2-3 small, sterile, papery bracts on the upper half. The raceme is conical-cylindrical, 5-8 x 6cm, laxly flowered. The floral bracts are linear-lanceolate, 5-10 x 2mm, papery. The pedicels are 7-15mm long, elongating to 22mm in fruit. The perianth is orange-red with yellow tips, cylindrical, 24-30mm long, 7-10mm across the ovary, abruptly constricted above to 5mm. The outer tepals are free for 8-10mm, tips spreading.
