Allium heldreichii       0

The bulb is ovoid to ellipsoid, 8-23mm in diameter, with few offsets. The tunics are scarious, light brownish, not splitting into fibers.

There are 2-3 leaves, sheathing 1/4-1/3 of the stem, half as long as to equaling the stem, up to 3mm wide, erect, canaliculate, persistent and green at anthesis. The stem is 20-50cm, erect, rather robust. The spathe is persistent, scarious, 2- or 3-lobed, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, shorter than umbel.

The umbel is subglobose, fairly dense, 25-40mm wide, 15- to 40-flowered, without bulbils. The pedicels are 4-15mm, subequal to unequal, smooth. The perianth is narrowly campanulate. The segments are 8-10 x 2.5-3.5mm, lanceolate, acute, rose-pink. The stamens are included, dimorphic. The outer filaments are 3-5.5mm, simple. The inner filaments are longer, tricuspidate. The anthers are 1.2-1.5mm, yellow or reddish. The style is 1-3mm. The stigma is entire, contiguous. The capsule is 4-5mm.

AUTUMN After harvesting the seeds, keep dry for 8weeks at room temperature then keep dry in the fridge at 4°C until sowing. Sow the seeds at 2mm depth in the Bulb Substrate between 68-77°F. During germination keep the substrate moist and in daylight. The seeds germinate in 2-3 weeks. The viability of the seeds, kept under good conditions, is 3 years.
The average seed weight is 775,2 per gram (0,00129g).
